Matriarch Maternity Support Belt

A soft support with a molded back that is used to unload and support the lumbar spine during pregnancy. Helps support the weight of the baby and the abdomen by dispersing stress more evenly across the back, reducing the pain caused by pulling of the lumbar spine into the increased lordosis. Used to immobilize the specified areas of the spine. Lumbar or Lumbar-Sacral orthosis. Produces intracavitary pressure to reduce load on the intervertebral discs. Designed to control gross movement of the trunk and intersegmental motion of the vertebrae in one or more planes of motion: Lateral/flexion (side bending) in the coronal/frontal plane, flexion (forward bending) or extension (backward bending) in the sagittal plane. Serves the needs of the patient throughout her pregnancy. Can be utilized post partum to transition the patient's return of abdominal strength, especially following a C-Section.

he Matriarch™ Maternity support brace disperses weight stress more evenly across the back, assisting in the support of the developing baby and reducing the pain caused by pulling of the lumbar spine into the increased lordosis.

Pregnancy is a special time in a woman's life in which she is privileged to experience the deep connection between herself and a child in utero, a time when she is to bear two individualities instead of one for nine months. Many natural changes occur to both spine and pelvis to accommodate child and mother. as the child grows and as birth approaches there are two events that change the spine and affect the mother's ability to bear the child and her own self in the world.

The first change is in the spinal curvature: As the weight of the developing child increases and the uterus expands, there is a marked increase in the mother's lumbar lordosis, the low back curve. As a result of this increased lordosis the mother may experience various discomforts, most notably pains in the lower back, flank area, buttocks and down the legs.

The second change occurs when hormones released near the time of birth vitalize and soften the bones and ligaments in the pelvis allowing more flexibility for the child to pass through the birth canal. This process can lead to weight-bearing difficulties, namely pain in the center of the low back, pain down the sides of the legs and an inability to walk upright due to sacral and pelvic instability.

The Matriarch™ is a specially designed modular back bracing system which serves the needs of the patient throughout her pregnancy, and can be utilized post partum to transition the patient's return of abdominal strength, especially following a C-Section. This dynamic and adjustable brace has posterior, optional rigid anterior, and optional lateral panels to support and stabilize the back along with the option of cold or hot packs to ease muscle soreness and pain.
